Centinela Studio designs and sources custom furniture for homes in San Miguel de Allende. We translate your room dimensions, preferences and practical needs into a furniture brief, then coordinate materials, workshops, inspection and placement. The service suits homeowners living locally or managing a property from the US or Canada. Each commission begins with an agreed scope and written proposal; production and installation follow the approved specifications.
Furniture that starts with the room
A dining table must leave room for chairs and circulation. A sofa needs to work with the height of the ceiling, the light and the way you use the living room. An attractive piece in a showroom is only a starting point.
We consider scale, comfort and the relationship between pieces before deciding what to commission and what to source. Sofas, armchairs, dining tables, beds and storage pieces are considered as part of the room. Materials, finish and upholstery should work together without making every object identical.
For an existing home, we start with what you want to keep. A meaningful table or an inherited chair can anchor the direction. If the whole room needs reconsidering, we assess the layout alongside the pieces rather than ordering furniture around a plan that does not work.
Design, sourcing and workshop coordination
Custom does not mean every item needs to be made from scratch. A sourced piece may be the better choice when its proportions, quality and availability suit the project. Our role is to make that decision with the room and your priorities in mind.
For made-to-order work, the brief records the information a workshop needs: dimensions, materials, upholstery, finish and the details that require approval. We coordinate the commission with specialist makers; we do not present their fabrication as an in-house Centinela factory.
Before production, we establish which drawings, samples or specifications need your approval. Any change to an approved piece is reviewed for its effect on price and timing before proceeding. The written scope defines purchasing and coordination responsibilities.
How a furniture project runs
- Property and brief. Tell us which rooms and pieces you are considering, what stays, your budget and your preferred timing. We establish the measurements and access information needed.
- Design and selection. We propose dimensions, materials and a coordinated direction, with the relevant samples or specifications for review.
- Proposal and approval. The scope identifies pieces, costs, responsibilities, exclusions and the proposed schedule. Orders follow approval.
- Production and receiving. We coordinate workshop questions and inspect the work within the agreed scope. Delivery access and any installation requirements are planned before arrival.
- Placement and handover. Pieces are delivered and positioned as agreed. Care information and any items needing follow-up are addressed at handover.
Commissioning furniture from abroad
You can discuss your home and review the design direction by video. Local measurements and receiving still need to happen in person; a reference photograph alone does not establish whether a sofa will fit a room or pass through a doorway.
We confirm who approves materials and finishes, how decisions are recorded and how updates will be shared. Let us know if a piece must be coordinated with building work, an existing delivery or your arrival date. Those dependencies belong in the plan before an order is released.
Budget, timing and what is included
The investment depends on the number and complexity of pieces, materials, upholstery, finish, access and installation. A coordinated room commission and a single table require different amounts of design and coordination, so we assess the scope before quoting.
Your proposal distinguishes design and coordination, furniture purchases, delivery, installation and any applicable taxes. Storage, specialist lifting or other access requirements are identified when relevant. We do not assume an advertised furniture price covers the whole project.
The calendar is specific to your commission. Workshop capacity, material availability and timely approvals all affect it. We discuss these conditions before production rather than promise the same lead time for every material and piece.
When a broader interior service is a better fit
If your project also needs a full layout, lighting, rugs, window treatments and styling, Turnkey Home brings those decisions into one interior design project. For significant one-of-a-kind commissions, art and antiques with documentation, explore The Collector.
For a focused textile and window project, see Custom Curtains & Shades. These services can be coordinated, but their scope should be agreed together rather than treated as unrelated orders.
Discuss your furniture project with the rooms, pieces and budget you have in mind. We will help establish the right next step for your property.
